I have a whippet/chihuahua mix, and for the past two days, he hasn't eaten and has thrown up three times for the past two days. The first day it was clear. The second day it was yellow. I'd give him some gatorade, and he trew that up, what should I do next? Should I take him to the vet? He hasn't had diarreah.

Hi my 5 year old Jack Russel has been been sick, first all he's food, then clear foam then blood, he also had very bad bloody diarrhea (with that horrible smell you all keep talking about) we have taken him to the vets and he has not been diagnosed with Parvo just a very bad stomach infection! He has been given an antibiotic injection and some promax which we have to give him. We have also been told to only give him small amounts of water throughout the day. He is obviously very drowsy and weak. Do you think my vets has got it right or could it be Parvo, I am really worried?!

I am studying to be a Vet Tech and I can tell you with complete confidence that if your dog has parvo he will be throwing up AND had horrible diarrhea that smells like death!! All puppies and dogs throw up or have diarrhea at some point but its when they are together and the dog is VERY lethargic (doesnt even want to move much) that it starts becoming a concern for parvo. When a dog has Parvo it will NOT act normal, or want to play, or even run. There are many doggie flues that have people running to the Vet thinking that they have parvo, dogs get flues every year just like humans do. The ONLY way to prevent your dog from getting the horrible disease is to MAKE SURE they have their yearly shots ON TIME EVERY YEAR. If you only give them their shots every other year you are wasting your money. They have to be vaccinated every year to stay safe, just like you vaccinate your children you should also do the same for your furry children. :)

Scott take your dog to vet asap. I recognize that thick clear frothy vomit as a sympton my dog had in the beginning of the Parvo virus.

On Saturday my dog was it's usual self. She jumped all over the man who came to look at the boiler. Later that evening she regurgitated all the food she ate. The next morning she would not touch her food, that was a shocker for me since she would eat anything that passed under her nose, even cake. About 4.30 am Sunday morning the flood gates opened in the form of a watery diarhea, she continued to drink alot of water though, but regurgitated that as well .The weight loss became noticeable, brought her to Banfield pet hospital on 117th street in NYC on Wednesday, she was admitted immediately and is there as we speak.I am praying that it was not too late. Diagnosis was Parvo. BTW, Petsmart offers a free diagnosis/consultation for those of us who do not have deep pockets in these hard times.
